How the Mummy MOT Works

The Mummy MOT is a full postnatal physiotherapy assessment that takes into account the physical changes that occur during pregnancy and childbirth. During the assessment, we evaluate the core, pelvic floor, and musculoskeletal system to identify any weaknesses, imbalances, or discomfort. Based on this assessment, we provide tailored advice and a rehabilitation plan that includes exercises to strengthen the core, improve posture, and address any pelvic health concerns. The Mummy MOT also offers advice on safe physical activity, returning to exercise, and managing the physical demands of motherhood.

The Mummy MOT

Your Mummy MOT practitioner will provide you with gentle exercises and treatment to help with your recovery – and get you back on track with your fitness goals.

It is recommended that women have an initial assessment after their 6-8 week GP check. However, we also treat women who gave birth years ago that may still have a tummy gap or related pelvic floor symptoms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Mummy MOT involve?

The Mummy MOT includes a detailed assessment of your postnatal recovery, focusing on areas such as your core, pelvic floor, posture, and physical activity level. Based on the findings, we will provide a tailored exercise and rehabilitation plan to address any issues or concerns, as well as advice on how to safely return to physical activity.

When should I have the Mummy MOT?

The Mummy MOT can be performed as soon as six weeks after childbirth, once you’ve had your postnatal check-up with your GP. However, some women may benefit from the assessment later on if they are experiencing ongoing physical challenges or would like more support in their postnatal recovery.

Do I need to be experiencing pain to have a Mummy MOT?

No, the Mummy MOT is not only for those experiencing pain but also for any new mother who wants to understand how their body has changed after childbirth and ensure they are recovering well. It's a proactive way to improve strength, posture, and overall well-being postnatally.
