£50Acupuncture involves the insertion of sterilised needles into specific areas of the body. Acupuncture can be used in to treat a wide variety of ailments, but our physiotherapists are specifically trained to use acupuncture for the relief of pain associated with sports injuries, Menopause Symptoms and musculoskeletal conditions.
Acupuncture works by stimulating the body’s natural healing process. When inserted into specific acupuncture points, the needles trigger a response from the nervous system that can improve circulation, alleviate muscle tension, and release endorphins, the body's natural pain-relieving chemicals. This holistic treatment helps restore balance in the body and promotes long-term recovery.
Until recently, it was widely believed that the beneficial effects of acupuncture were due to placebo. Scientific studies have consistently shown that "believers" and "non-believers" are equally likely to experience pain relief from the insertion of acupuncture needles and that acupuncture needles stimulate the body to produce its own anti-inflammatory and painkilling substances.
Yes, acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by trained professionals. At iPS, our acupuncture treatments are administered by qualified practitioners who follow strict hygiene protocols.
The number of acupuncture sessions depends on your condition and personal progress. The pain relief following acupuncture varies between individuals from nothing at all to complete resolution of symptoms. Some patients may have immediate results whilst for others it may take more time before they see the benefits. It is widely accepted that a minimum of 4 sessions should be tried to determine if there is going to be a beneficial effect. However, your physiotherapist will recommend a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Most people experience little to no discomfort when the needles are inserted. The needles are very fine, and many clients find the treatment relaxing.
We want to ensure that all of our patients receive the information they need to make an informed decision about their treatment. If you have any questions or if you require assistance with anything, please let us know.
