Ultrasound-guided injections are a precise and effective treatment used to deliver medication directly to the source of pain or inflammation. By using ultrasound imaging, our physiotherapists can guide the injection to the exact location, ensuring the medication is delivered accurately and with minimal discomfort. This technique is often used for treating conditions such as joint pain, tendonitis, bursitis, and arthritis, providing relief from chronic pain and inflammation.
Important: At iPS, we only perform Ultrasound Guided Injections for peripheral joints and soft tissue injuries and conditions in upper and lower limbs (shoulders to fingers, hips to toes). We do not inject the neck, spine, lower back, sacroiliac joint to treat back pain or sciatica.
Our MSK Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist - Gareth Tremain has extensive post-graduate qualifications, including Independent Prescribing, Musculoskeletal (MSK) Ultrasound-Guided Injections and MSK Diagnostic Ultrasound Scanning. He is able to expertly assess and treat a wide range of MSK injuries and conditions. If you are looking for an accurate diagnosis and advanced treatment options, look no further. He is one of only a few private physiotherapist in Wales to offer these services. Following his specialist assessment and treatment, he will also provide you with an exercise programme to maximise your recovery.
*The injection fees, do not include the cost of consultation required to perform the injection(s)
Ultrasound-guided injections involve using real-time ultrasound imaging to accurately guide the needle into the target area, whether it be a joint, tendon, or muscle. This technique allows for the precise placement of medications, such as corticosteroids, hyaluronic acid, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which are used to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and promote healing. The ultrasound imaging helps avoid any surrounding structures and ensures the medication is delivered directly to the problem area for optimal effectiveness.
When considering where to seek treatment, iPS stands out for several compelling reasons. Firstly, we offer expert treatment at affordable prices, ensuring high-quality care accessible to all. At iPS, convenience is paramount - during your initial visit, we can prescribe cortisone and administer injections under ultrasound guidance without the need for a GP referral. Additionally, we prioritise your time by frequently accommodating same-day appointments.
Our fees encompass a comprehensive clinical examination and diagnostic ultrasound scan conducted by MSK Clinical Specialist – Gareth Tremain, guaranteeing thorough assessment and personalised care. Furthermore, our commitment extends beyond the injection itself; we provide expert advice on post-injection rehabilitation as an inclusive part of our service, ensuring holistic recovery support for our patients.
When considering the lower fees of other providers using unguided/blind injections, please weigh up the cost savings against the level of service you will be receiving. Our clinical specialist has trained in ultrasound-guided injections for many years to ensure his injections are highly accurate, which ensures safety and increases chance of pain relief.

Compared to the unguided injections offered by most GP Surgeries, there is a growing body of research that demonstrates why ultrasound-guided injections are the gold standard in injections. Due to the many benefits, we use Ultrasound Guidance for all of our injections.
Ultrasound guidance allows for precise placement of the needle, ensuring that the medication is delivered exactly where it’s needed. This reduces the risk of complications and increases the effectiveness of the treatment by ensuring the injection reaches the target area directly.
Ultrasound-guided injections are generally well-tolerated. The use of real-time ultrasound allows our physiotherapists to make the procedure as comfortable as possible by guiding the needle accurately. Some discomfort may be felt during the injection, but it is typically minimal and short-lived.
While some patients experience immediate relief, it can take a few days to a couple of weeks for the full effects of the injection to be felt. The length of time before relief depends on the specific condition being treated and the individual’s response to the medication.
You do not require a GP referral. In general, it will be possible for you to have an injection at your initial visit. If Gareth feels that your injury/condition or general medical condition requires you to speak to your GP or have further investigations prior to having an injection, he will advise you of this.
An 'Unguided Injection' is also known as 'landmark guided injection' or 'blind injection'. It involves palpating bones and soft tissues to guide needle insertion. This has obvious safety and accuracy limitations, so there are few circumstances when we would recommend this.
Yes - It is possible to have 2 or more Ultrasound-Guided injections at the same consultation. You will receive a discount on the cost of any additional injections during the intial assessment if required.
