What is Pilates?

First implemented by Jo Pilates in the 1920s. Over the years it has from strength to strength with proven benefits in rehabilitation and wellbeing. Many people believe that Pilates is only used for strengthening ‘your core’, but it is far more holistic than that. It can be used to resolve or manage pain and dysfunction in the neck, shoulders, hips, knees as well as lower back. We do not just work with older individuals with chronic back pain. We use our specialist knowledge to help a wide range of individuals from office workers to elite athletes. It is very common for people to have underlying muscle weaknesses and imbalances that are causing chronic discomfort and limiting physical activity. Our specialist physiotherapists have trained for many years to identify and address such issues in a wide range of individuals.

At iPS, our Pilates instructors are highly experienced chartered physiotherapists and trained at the world-renowned Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI).

iPS 1-2-1 Pilates Sessions

We can offer 1-2-1 Pilates face-to-face at one of our specialist physiotherapy clinics or virtually via live video link. During your 1-2-1 sessions you will receive the full focus of our experienced chartered physiotherapist in a private and comfortable environment. This will allow you to quickly learn the basic principles and start to address your weaknesses and imbalances. Many patients wish to continue with private 1-2-1 sessions, however, you can transfer to one of our Pilates classes at any time if you wish.

iPS Pilates Classes

We offer classes for all abilities - from beginners to more advanced. Due to current Covid-19 social distancing measures, our classes are currently live streamed via Zoom, so you can enjoy them from the comfort of your own home. Prior to you joining a class you will require a one-to-one consultation (face-to-face of virtual) with one of our experienced physiotherapists. This allows us to discuss your problems, agree SMART goals, perform a physical assessment to identify weaknesses / imbalances and to discuss the process of attending virtual classes. Please do not be put off by the thought of using technology, we have successfully trained even the biggest technophobes to access our virtual classes. We have regular feedback that our online classes are welcoming, fun, motivating as well as effective in addressing pain and dysfunction. They are a cost-effective way of continuing to gain the benefits of Pilates indefinitely. Following your initial consultation, you are welcome to attend a virtual Pilates class free of charge, before deciding whether you wish to pay for a course of treatment. We are extremely confident that you will be keen to continue.

How Pilates Physiotherapy Works

Pilates physiotherapy combines traditional Pilates exercises with physiotherapy techniques to promote healing, improve posture, and enhance core strength. The exercises focus on controlled movements, breathing, and alignment, which help strengthen the deep muscles of the abdomen, back, and pelvis. Our physiotherapists will guide you through each exercise to ensure that you are performing the movements safely and effectively, making Pilates an excellent choice for rehabilitation, injury prevention, and general well-being.
