Gareth started his career as a physiotherapist in the NHS in 2002. He gained experience working across a variety of departments in large general hospitals during the first 6 years of his career. It was during this time he developed a passion for the treatment of patients following life-changing-injuries, musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries/ conditions and sports injuries. He left the NHS in 2008 and since then he has developed a network of specialist private physiotherapy clinics across South Wales, for The Independent Physiotherapy Service (iPS). Gareth currently splits his time between the management of iPS clinics and treating patients.
Gareth has a wealth of knowledge and specialist skills. He has Bachelor of Science degrees in Sport & Exercise Science and Physiotherapy. He has extensive post-graduate training and qualifications including: Ultrasound-Guided Injections, Diagnostic Ultrasound Scanning and Independent Prescribing.
As well as being able to offer expert physiotherapy assessments and treatments, he has advanced knowledge of strength & conditioning which he utilises to maximise the recovery of his patients.
He attends regular courses and conferences with world renowned physiotherapists, doctors and surgeons to ensure he is using the most up-to-date evidence-based practice.
Gareth has successfully treated elite athletes and weekend warriors from a wide variety of sports for many years. He is able to empathise with the physical and psychological distress that follows serious injury, having recovered from a number himself (including ACL rupture, ankle fracture-dislocation and fractured spine).
Gareth enjoys working with patients following life-changing-injuries. He works closely with his team of musculoskeletal and neurological physiotherapists and strength & conditioning coaches to rehabilitate patients with injuries including traumatic amputations, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and extensive fractures and soft tissue injuries.
He has rehabilitated patients from intensive care back to a high level of activity including Ironman and international Para Athletic competitions. He enjoys developing a strong rapport and acting as a mentor for his patients. He understands the need for rehabilitation to be fun and varied to maintain the patient's motivation. He treats patients who have sustained life-changing-injuries in a number of different locations including gym, hydrotherapy pool, swimming pool, sea, sand dunes, parks, running tracks and mountains, to help get them back to the activities they loved to do prior to their injuries.
Gareth enjoys participating in and watching a number of sports. As a young man, he played rugby to a high level, but injury forced him to stop playing. This lead him to pursue a career in physiotherapy. He enjoys keeping himself fit with a range of sports and activities including weight training, Hyrox competitions, running, and hiking.
