Liz Davies

Neurological Physiotherapist & Aquatic physiotherapist

Professional Profile:

Liz is a Neurological/Domiciliary/Vestibular and Aquatic Physiotherapist and has experience in working in a variety of settings, including inpatients, outpatients and community. She is experienced in the assessment and treatment of patients with a variety of neurological and orthopaedic conditions, high risk of falls, poor mobility and function, and patients who suffer with dizziness.

Liz has been a chartered physiotherapist for 16 years. The majority of her career has been based in the NHS, working in a variety of settings including acute/subacute and rehab hospitals, outpatient clinics and within community based services.

Liz has many years of experience in trauma and orthopaedics, falls prevention, and general medicine surgery and rehab. However, Liz has spent the majority of her post graduate career specialising in hydrotherapy, neurology and vestibular rehabilitation. Liz's true passion is hydrotherapy and her experience in this field spans 15 years. She has an in depth knowledge of the physical physiological and psychological benefits the water can bring to individuals suffering from illness and impairment. Liz has worked as an aquatic physiotherapist for the NHS and private practice, and also for the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society.

Alongside hydrotherapy, Liz worked as a senior neurological physiotherapist for 12 years. Over this time she has treated an extensive variety of neurological conditions such as Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, brain injury and spinal cord injury, Cerebral palsy and MND. This treatment involves closely working with patients, families and their wider social and medical teams. Liz utilises well established neurological hands-on therapy techniques and functional exercise based rehab to form a holistic approach to neurological rehabilitation. The expert equipment at our Cardiff Rehab Centre is used as a brilliant adjunct to her specific individualised neuro rehabilitation programmes.

Liz has been heavily involved in participating in case management and multi-disciplinary goal setting whether as an outpatient, inpatient or community based physiotherapist. She is highly competent at writing professional reports for case managers and consultants alike, and also individual physiotherapy resource packs for the patients themselves, families and carers. During her time in the community services, Liz has trained carers and support workers in implementing specific rehab programmes and monitors and assesses their ongoing competencies.

Vestibular physiotherapy is an exceptionally specialised area of physiotherapy and at IPS we are very fortunate to have Liz, one of the relatively small number of physiotherapists that hold this specialism. Liz has worked in this field for 7 years and regularly attends courses and conferences to ensure she is up to date on the latest evidence, treatment techniques and approaches to tackle the debilitating effects of dizziness and vertigo.

Liz's relaxed and very approachable nature is much appreciated by her patients, she has a natural ability in making people feel reassured encouraged and at ease. Liz is a very caring and compassionate person, and this shines through when you meet her.
