Falls Prevention & Rehabilitation

Injury due to falls is the leading cause of mortality in people aged over 75 in the UK. 25% of fallers will sustain serious injury. Half of all fallers will fall again within 12 months. A well designed falls prevention programme, monitored by a chartered physiotherapist can significantly reduce the risk of falls. A recent study showed that following a strengthening and balance programme, there was a 60% reduction in falls and 92% reduction in A&E admissions.

There are a number of risk factors for falling including:

  • Neurological (stroke, Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis etc)

  • Orthopaedic (arthritis, joint replacement, post fracture etc)

  • General de-conditioning (due to age, illness, surgery)

  • Unsteadiness (various causes)
